Dog Days...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Not a whole lot of anything exciting today.

My son and I took the dog out for a walk in the River Valley today.

Prior to going out though I baked Dog Biscuits and delivered some to our doggie friends and neighbours.  They seemed to really enjoy the treats:

Hope everyone had a wonderful day.

I Don't Follow Directions....

Good Evening Internet Friends.

For those of you that know me and those of you that are just finding out......I Don't follow Directions.

I wish I could say that is not true.....but it is.

This afternoon I decided that I would finally make one of the Knitting Pouch bags that I wrote the pattern for.  Guess what?????  I can't even follow my own directions.  I decided to change the pattern up a bit:

I decided that I wanted a colour coordinated base to the bag!

A few minor changes and I have a really cool Knitting Pouch ☺

Then it was time to take Kiddo and "Horse Dog" for a walk:

Horse Dog has settled in for a very deep sleep at present. ☺

After dinner I took pictures of the new yarns with Mini Skeins that 4Paws Quilting & Knitting has brought in:

Meet Canada 150!  This yarn is a special dye lot for the shop.  Mini Skein is for coordinating cuffs, heels and toes. ☺

Now meet Amethyst and green.  I LOVE this colourway as well because it reminds me of Grapes ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Canada 150 Socks!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Earlier this week 4Paws Quilting & Knitting received their Special Request Dye of Canada 150 yarn.  By special request I had asked for mini red skeins to coordinate with this custom dye:

I was "SO" excited to get started on a pair of socks with red toes heel and cuff but my JRA has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now (the moving and cleaning may not have been good for it).

I am not a fan of toe up socks but because of the style I wanted I chose to use this method.  At first I cast on with my wooden circular needle but since it is small (for socks) my hands got even more sore quite quickly trying to hold the needles.  I switched to my Sock Rocket needles knowing that the metal would bother my hands but hoping that with lots of extra cable I would be able to knit without too much pain.  Not has taken me most of the week to get through the toe portion.  As of tonight however I was able to switch out to my 6" Double Point Needles and although my hands still hurt the needles are long enough and the radius of the sock wide enough to allow my hands to be able to knit😁😁

Now I am really making progress!  Hopefully I can have these socks finished for Canada Day although I might be knitting these on the flight.....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Now that I have cleaned and organized my craft room I have assigned areas/space for each of my different crafting pursuits.  I have a quilting, a knitting, a cross stitch and a scrapbooking area.

This evening I used some of the prepared card bases I found to make some Thank You cards for Sharon to include with her customer orders:

"Sew" if you place an order and receive one of these you will know where it came from ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I am starting to enjoy the effort that I have put into moving and organizing my craft room over the last week.

There are some amazing things in that room.....I may never (actually I don't) ever need to shop for craft supplies again!🀣🀣

The greatest thing about my reclaimed room is that I have more space to do the things I like in a little more tidy and organized manner.

This evening a quick stop in the scrap bucket and I was able to produce:

Another Flock of Geese Block from the challenge I am participating in from A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop.

Right now I have no idea how many blocks I have made "sew" far nor how many I am supposed to have.  I am just happy to be able to walk into my craft room and have everything easily accessible ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Squishy Mail.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

Well.....Squishy Mail Arrived today!!!!

Here is the box.  This is a Club Subscription of Fingering Yarn from Ancient Arts that I subscribed to through 4Paws Quilting & Knitting.

Ready to see what was me this box did not make it home before I had it opened:

I LOVE this colourway and can hardly wait to get started on this, but there were also some other yarn arrivals I should get started on first.....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Sunday Funday.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

My Sunday Funday was yet another day of cleaning.  I am now starting to believe that people really should change houses every couple of years.  When I was in University and even when I first started working I moved every year or so.  Every time I moved I got rid of stuff I did not need going to the next location.  When I bought a home I was all excited about not having to move frequently yet now there is 17 years of stuff that is stuffed into cupboards, closets boxes etc.

I took a break from my Kathy vs The House Conquest this evening and made another quick project.  This is another Kitchen Towel Kit that I picked up at 4Paws Quilting:

These colours are so nice and bright and cheery (not cherry) that they brighten up my kitchen I think ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Sleep Begins with.....

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

I would like to tell you that I spent a restful day in my craft room enjoying all the fun things I found in there, but that would not be the truth.

In fact, I continued with my cleaning!!!!  As of this evening we have me mounting a full out cleaning assault on my house and so far it looks like the house is winning! πŸ™ˆ

I did find and complete another quick project so that I could validate having started this cleaning frenzy:

A really FUN dinosaur pillow case.  Sadly, my son is a little old for this now, but I do know a couple of little boys who will both LOVE this ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

I'm Back.......

Good Evening Internet Friends!

As you can see I have been a little delinquent on the blog posts of late.  That is because very late a week ago Thursday I decided to move my craft room back into the room it had been in previously.  I had been moved out of the room to accommodate for the Mother In Law coming to visit several years ago.  Since she will no longer becoming to visit I decided it was time to take back my original craft room ☺

I had NO idea how much "stuff" aka junk had accumulated in that room over time.  Several blue bags, a couple of garbage bags and 4 garbage bags for donations I am almost completely moved and set up.

This evening I decided that I would do a quick easy project that I could complete and feel like I had done something in my newly acquired space ☺

I made a Dish Towel with a purchased 100% Twill Fabric Dish Towel from 4Paws Quilting & Knitting.  I made this one specifically for the barbecue due to the colour.  Since it is destined for the barbecue I chose a "Dad" appropriate fabric:

I am saying that this Dish Towel is for the Super Cool(Crew) Dad! ☺

Getting Ready....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, it's true.....the count down is on for Canada Day 150.  It has always been a dream of mine to attend Canada Day in Ottawa and on Parliament Hill and this year my son and I will be doing just that!  I am starting to get excited!  It has been almost a year in the planning ☺

Today I picked up and subsequently planted my Canadian Shield Rose:

This evening after all the household tasks were done I finished the first of the lattice socks that I made with the 7 stitch diamond shape on them.  Unfortunately, the pattern does not show up well under the photo flash, but trust me it is there!

This yarn colourway is named Alpine Meadow from Ancient Arts Yarn that I got at 4 Paws Quilting & Knitting:

Now, I am going to try valiantly to complete the second one of these as there just might be a really cool/amazing/awesome colourway coming to 4 Paws Quilting & Knitting in the next few days that just might have something to do with Canada Day ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

A Quick Pause

Good Afternoon Internet Friends!

Have not been blogging or posting regularly with the Living In Fast Forward that I have been doing lately ☺

On Friday after two appointments for myself and my son's yearly pediatrician check up I took a bit of time before picking him up from school to stop by my neighbourhood quilt shop; 4Paws Quilting & Knitting.  Sadly, although Sharon the owner is my neighbour I do not get over as often as I should.  Recently she got some new things in and so I stopped by to see and have a visit.

As always the visit was wonderful and I found a few new things that I just "HAD" to have.

First off the Rotary Cutter with a Quick Change Blade.  Plus, I loved the fun colours this came in ☺

This pack of rulers.  You likely know I make a lot of half square triangles in my quilting adventures and these rulers are perfect for marking the sewing lines rather than the large grid rulers!

I was "sew" excited about these that I had to actually use them (and the cutter) when I got home:

The rulers worked awesome and I found out that they have a bit of flexibility in their make up so re-positioning is super easy ☺

With my fabulous new Kathy's favourites I made:

Another of my Flock of Geese Blocks!

Now it's time to get dinner prepped for the oven for the family and get myself off to work.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

What's up Wednesday???

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I have put in my two days of work now for part of this week.  Will be off Thursday and Friday as I am working the upcoming weekend.  Second last batch of these shifts that my rotation mandates.  After July I will only be working the weekend shifts if I choose too, which of course will be phenomenal to not have to coordinate child care ☺

Two and a bit weeks ago I decided to dig deep into my Yarn Stash and participate in the Joji Mystery Wrap Knit Along.  So far I have managed to complete part of the first half of Clue 1!!!  What I find amazing is that there are actually people out there who have both parts of Clues 1  & 2 all done!!!  Here is my progress:

The first of two almost completed ☺

Over the weekend I planted my Martha Washington Geranium's.  I was worried that something might happen to them during the wind storm today but arriving home I saw:

They made out just fine!  ☺☺☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

It's Over.......

Good Evening Internet Friends!

The long awaited Victoria Day Weekend is over.  I would like to say that I accomplished great things, but alas, that is not so nor "sew".

Saturday my son and I went to Telus World of Science.  My son a couple of years ago when caught not paying attention in Math class was asked by his then teacher how he expected to become an astro-space engineer.  He replied that if he it did not work out for him he could always fall back on being Prime Minister.  On Saturday the current Prime Minister was in attendance at Telus World of Science so my son wanted to meet him.  He was fortunate enough to shake hands twice and have a brief conversation.  That made my son's day. ☺

Saturday afternoon I cleaned up all the rogue branches and weeds and just anything I was displeased with in my front yard.

Sunday, I cleaned out my neighbours flower bed.  Seriously.....I did!

Today was just boring get ready to go back to work and school for the week.

After dinner I took out my current sock knitting in my newest Tula Pink Creation and did a bit of knitting......I have made it to the heel finally ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Wish Upon a Star Block???

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, today marks the end of the work week for me and the start of a 4 day weekend!

Not exactly sure what my big plans will entail, but I have 4 days now to do something...

This evening after walking the dog and getting my son off to bed I made another Star Block from the Star Block challenge I started last year.

I need to make 52 of these blocks and really I have no idea what number this block makes, but needless to say, I need a lot more.....

Hopefully, I can wish upon a star and get some more of these blocks done this weekend, and my knitting, and my flower beds planted....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Another Pouch....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Spent this evening making another Tabby Road Knitting Pouch just so that I could write the pattern for these little pouches.  I think that they are just plain fun to make and everyone seems to love them as well.  "Sew" as of very late this evening, the instructions for how to make these are complete!!!

One of these days I shall have to make one of these for myself.  ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Star block

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, my version of the weekend is over and back to work tomorrow.

I would like to say that I accomplished a lot, but that would be fictitious.  I did a few errands and got a few things organized.  I knit a bit and spent a bit of time in my craft room, mostly organizing and sorting.

I can show you that as of this evening I have made yet another Star Block:

How many more of these blocks you ask???  Alas, I do not know as I did not feel like counting them out this evening ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Happy Mother's Day

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day.

My day started out with my son and I making Cinnamon French Toast for breakfast:

After breakfast we baked some sugar cookies and packaged what we did not consume (trust me it was hard to stop) for some friends for Mother's Day.

In the afternoon we took the dog out for an almost 6 mile walk in the River Valley

After dinner I took a wee bit of time to myself and made another Flock of Geese Block:

Now to retire with my knitting and maybe get to bed on time tonight ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Anyone Awake???

Good Morning Internet Friends!

After working an evening shift this evening I have been quite productive!

Laundry, dishes, vacuuming, watering plants and refrigerator clean up......DONE!

A bit of knitting on two different projects after my son went to bed.  Trying to get caught up on them both as I have a very large project to start tomorrow ☺

Speaking of the "BIG" project I decided I needed a Knitting Pouch to keep my stuff in while otherwise occupied.  The Zipper Pouch bags I made were a hit at the show last weekend.

Another Blue Tula Pink Tabby Road knitting bag.  I really do like the colour of the fabric and the skein of Naughty Little Rabbit really wants to be cast on into something ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

And Tuesday is Knitting Day....

Good Evening Internet Friends.

That is correct.  Tuesday is Knitting Day because that is what I do while my son is at music lessons - okay sometimes I take a nap in the chair, but mostly I knit.

Today I continued on with the Alpine Meadow colourway of the Ancient Arts Yarn that I asked Sharon at 4Paws Quilting to stock for me.  I love this colourway and after carefully debating what kind of pattern I should use I actually graphed out my own diamond over 8 stitches and what I now have is:

It's simple enough to not detract from the yarn colour, but also just enough to add some texture and some skill to this sock ☺

Quite pleased with myself this evening.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Here Kitty Kitty

Good Evening Internet Friends.

I am posting a little early this evening and my son and I will have to be leaving early tomorrow morning to get to the Claresholm Fibre Arts & Quilt Fair.

I made one last quick easy project to display the Tabby Road Fabric this evening:

Another Knitting Pouch.  This pouch will hold a skein of wool and the project you are working on currently.

Plus it has these awesome coloured cats on it so I think it is pretty "Top Drawer".

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

The Summer Chill is Here!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Earlier in the week I blocked the Cowl that I designed with some really cool yarn.

This evening I added the button to it and finished writing the pattern for it.  This cowl will be making it's debut at the Claresholm Fibre Arts & Quilt Fair this weekend.

My son has named it the Summer Chill Cowl because it is bright and summery in colour, but also has strands of roving interspersed throughout the skein:

This cowl is quick and easy to make along with just being fun to knit ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

HOLY Cats!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends.

Today was another slow day.  I did get up and get my son to school, and myself to work but by 1030 hours I was EXHAUSTED!!!!  Who knew a Registered Nurse would spend her day walking????

Coming home I slept for 6 hours straight!!!!

Feel a little better this evening but the cough is still tight and lingering.

After my son got home from school and just before dinner I sewed the last row of 5 blocks on to my Tabby Road Quilt with the fabric from 4Paws Quilting.  I think that this quilt will be going to the Claresholm Fibre Arts & Quilt Fair this weekend:

This quilt really is BRIGHT!  But as my son says "what's not to like about it"?

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Slow Moving

Good Evening Internet Friends.

Had a very extensive list of things that I wanted/needed to accomplish today.  As of right now, most of them are still on the list because it is still hard to accomplish things with my lungs right now 😷

I did stop at Bead World after dropping my son off at school as I wanted to make my Yarn/Thread Cutter that I requested Sharon bring into her store into a pendant.  I had NO idea that there were so many amazing beads in the entire world!!!

I spent over an hour in this place , albeit I walk slow right now, but you should see the selection!

I purchased some leather cord and finally settled on Zuni Semi Precious Polar Bears because I thought there were "fully" not just semi precious.

This afternoon I made my Yarn/Thread Cutter into a pendant:

I will likely be making a few more of these for the Quilt Show this weekend, as long as I have the strength, time and most of all energy☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Blocking Kathy

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Okay, there is actually a back story to my title tonight that is currently giving me a good laugh.  For the purpose of this blog entry though I am talking about blocking with regards to knitting. ☺

Today I managed to muster up enough energy to block my new cowl scarf of which I have written the pattern and will have at the Claresholm Fibre Arts & Quilt Fair this weekend.

People buy all kinds of things to block their knitted items......I tend to be Saskatchewan Ukrainian Cheap or as my new knitting friend from Vancouver Island calls is - Practical ☺

I find the biggest and oldest beach towels (the ones I used when training to be a life guard) as these are the ones that have no more possible colour run or ability to leak colour on to anything.

I spread these out on top of my really big deep freeze and lay the knit item out and stretch it to shape after a quick rinse with SOAK:
Here I measured the width of my scarf and folded the towel back on itself on a fold so that it would also help keep the size of the cowl consistent.

Then I used these Wonder Clips I asked Sharon to bring in for me for this exact purpose ☺

After pinning the remaining towel is folded over the cowl until the towel is equally around the cowl and I roll it  up very carefully making sure the towel loose end is on the bottom....the weight of the towel will keep the towel from unwinding.  In about 2 days it will be all dried and ready to wear ☺

Except for the button I need to sew on!

"Sew"  now you know why I would ask 4Paws Quilting to bring these Wonder clips in even though I have no intention of quilting or sewing with them.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

I Lost....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Wednesday morning I woke up with a head cold.  As the day progressed it got worse, but of course I practice some sort of medicine every day so take the Vitamin C and the pain relievers and get some chicken soup and I will be fine......NOT!!!

By Saturday morning it was a full fledged something so I decided to take a sick day and try and sleep and medicate it.......I LOST!!!  Today with a fever and chest full of mucous and cough that seals at the zoo only wish they could attain I had to see a Doctor.  Seriously.  Now I am on antibiotics and of course 2 doses in I want to think I am better but really it has taken me most of the day to get to this point.....

Recently I wrote a pattern for a Knitting Sack for my friend and neighbour Sharon of 4Paws Quilting.  I consider myself a fairly new quilter only having quilted now for about 15 years but I have always sewed.  My grandmother taught me with her treadle sewing machine and of course she never used a pattern.  Even for my jeans as a child because I was extra skinny thanks to my Juvenile Diabetes.

Thanks to this kind of upbringing I do not do well with patterns.  I rarely follow them properly and usually decide how to make something.  This is the case with the Knitting Sack.  I have a few of them that either came with yarn or from Local Yarn Shops but none of them were what I EXACTLY wanted.  "Sew" I came up with my own.

Writing the pattern was not easy, and so in an attempt to clarify how I made the bag the following brief descriptions and pictures will hopefully fix that.  I have not included measurements for this as the pattern is now copyrighted......I am only showing the steps. ☺

Cuff, Lining and Main Fabric Cut.

All three sections sewn together (lining is upside down compared to the rest so that kitty's are not upside down for the bag lining)

Pocket Pieces.  Place Right sides together and sew around outer edges leaving a space for turning.

One corner stitch at an angle to make turning easier.

Corners are cut using my favourite Kai scissors that 4Paws carries now as one of Kathy's Favourite things.  You will also see my version of the Purple Thingy that everyone uses.......I will never request Sharon bring those in because I much prefer my Tupperware orange peeler - price is right too - free with a Tupperware order ☺

In the pattern there will be instructions for where to sew and draw lines.

The horizontal lines in this picture are for pocket folds.  The vertical line in this picture is if you want to have one larger front pocket with 2 hidden pockets behind. ☺

However many pocket compartments you choose to have you will place the pocket on the lining following the measurements from the pattern.

Pocket placement for 4 equal sized compartments option.  Vertical line will be sewn through all 5 layers (2 front pocket, 2 back pocket, 1 lining layer) for the 4 compartment option.  Choose either the step above or this one NOT BOTH!

Top Stitch the pocket edge to the lining (this will close up the open turning point on the pocket)

This is my option with the one larger compartment in the front.

Two hidden pockets behind.

Stay stitch a couple of stitches in each corner to keep flap in downward position (so you don't lose your little treasures)

Mark on one side of all three sequence pieces the draw string opening.  Made sure you do not sew this area closed when you lay the other piece right sides together to close the bag.

Leave an opening in the lining as well for turning the bag.

Inside of bag (1 larger compartment with 2 hidden compartments (or could be 4 compartments if I had sewed through top layer of pocket).

4 full skeins of wool fit inside.  Knitting needles position in center so that draw string secures them.

All done - I love the cat buttons that comes with this kit ☺

These of course will be making their debut at the Claresholm Fibre Arts & Quilt Fair this coming weekend ☺

Hope this answers all your questions and inspires your own creativity....
