I'm Beet!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

My expression for today was indeed that I am "beet".  My son did not find this particularly funny, but I thought it was hilarious.

Tomorrow is back to work so there was all the tasks to do to get ready for that like laundry, lunch and dinner prep, household chores and since it is Sunday take the dog for an extra long walk.

I made bun dough early this morning so that just before lunch my son and I were able to assemble and bake Beet Leaf Buns.  We ate them for lunch fresh from the oven!

One of my favourite summer treats.

The River Valley was lovely today but the wind was a little chill, and there were yellow leaves not only on the trees but on the ground already as's coming.....☃❄❅❆🌨⛄

Sock To It!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Earlier today I would not have been kidding if I had told you that I had four socks of different yarns, and styles on the go at once.

Fast forward to right now and I can tell you that is now three, but do not worry, I will cast on the second sock of the just finished sock tomorrow morning😸

Without further ado, here is my latest creation in probably my all time favourite colour way:

This is my Hudson's Memories sock with my favourite sock knitting wool Biscotte Yarns that is currently in stock at 4Paws Quilting & Knitting πŸ‘.

I knit a plain basic sock to show off the self striping of this yarn and did an increase/decrease heel to keep with the striping effect.  I did not use a heel flap as I did not want to disturb the flow of the stripes and since I DETEST wrap and turn socks this was the best option for the heel.

I really do like how these turned out.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Rockin' Socks!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Not a lot of crafting done as I was a little occupied with all my Birthday FUN!

Calls and messages from the family early this morning.

My iBFF stopped by with balloons (I LOVE balloons - they make me happy and the large one sings):

This afternoon my son and I went out to try a new pottery painting place.  We did not like the items they had so came home.

I was about to make dinner when my iBFF invited me out for dinner as the family and of course I took that up ☺

Made some of my new tea that came in my monthly knitting box.  It is amazingly yummy and now I am all sleepy feeling.

I did knit a few more rows on my socks:

I am loving how these are turning out.  I am not a fan of wrap and turn heels but the Knit Along I will be starting soon uses this increase and decrease heel type and it is so easy to work and gives me the results that I want!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

The South Paw Maverick...

Good Morning Internet Friends!

Seriously, it is morning and I am still up and probably will be for a few hours yet.
A little known fact about me is that contrary to common belief I actually am in my right mind.  I grew up with two south paw influences both of whom were perfectionists. I do scribe with my right hand as I had difficulty committing to a hand as a child and it was decided that the right hand would write cleaner.

I blame my inability to follow directions on this state of right mind.  I am not known for doing what I am told ☺ and that includes my craft projects.  I have a LOT of difficulty following the steps in the order the author has put them out.  A lot of times I sew items after I have assessed how they came to be and then do my own thing.  Same for knitting, I will look at the visual pattern, determine what I NEED to know to create and carry on.  On top of that I also like to be unique ☺

Over the past few weeks/months I have been making Knitting Pouches with Sharon's pattern for 4Paws Quilting & Knitting.  It is a great pattern and the instructions are really easy to follow......but of course me being me......I do not like to do the same thing more than a couple of times.

"Sew" last evening while making my most current one for a Knit Along I will be participating in later this week I decided to make it more "Kathy":

I added a sheep button on a leather pull string to make it my own. Plus, the sheep buttons make me happy. ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Socks!!! Glorious Socks!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Late yesterday evening I finished a pair of socks so it seemed most appropriate for me to........start another pair this morning.

I picked up this skein of Hudson's Memories while I was in Montreal.  The staff at Biscotte Yarns knew that I would not have time to get to their store but they made arrangements for me to pick up another store that I would be close to.

These yarns are my go to yarns.  I love the colours and feel of this yarn and so I may have had "some" influence on my neighbourhood quilt and now knitting shop bringing these yarns in.  Tomorrow afternoon 4Paws Quilting & Knitting will be stocking these yarns including the colourway shown below and there just might (there will be 😺) sparkle yarns!!!!

In between blanching carrots and laundry here is my progress today:

My favourite colours and my favourite yarn.  Good thing winter is coming so that I can wear these.  ❆

Made In Canada!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was a super busy day again for my son and I.

We got up fairly early for a Saturday morning and headed off to the St Albert Farmers' Market and to pick up a neat item that I will show you another day.

Got lots of yummy goodies and will be doing some baking etc over the next few days ☺

This evening after dinner I spent some time on my sofa........knitting ☺

My Sassenach Socks using my June shipment of the Super Amazing Awesome Fingering Yarn Club that I get through 4Paws Quilting & Knitting are finished:

They are really cozy on my feet right now ☺

I am calling these my Made In Canada socks because I started knitting them while on vacation in Quebec and continued to knit across Canada as I returned home to Alberta.  On top of that the yarn is Canadian as is the sock pattern designer ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Wednesday, 9 August 2017

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

I stopped by 4Paws Quilting & Knitting this evening to pick up my second box of the Super Amazing Awesome Fingering Yarn Club.

These boxes are shipped every second month so I was super excited to open it.  Once again the box is fabulous!  I love that the yarn is dyed in Alberta.  This month there is a tea blend that coordinates with the colour dye way and is locally sourced, as is the button included in the box.  I love these little extras and that mainly the box composition is locally sourced.  One of the other yarn collection boxes I used to get had mostly Canadian yarns, but the extras were all made elsewhere 😿.

So without further ado...   SPOILER ALERT:

TAH DAH!!!

Not only is the contents of the box beautiful but this month is entitled Famous Five in celebration of the Alberta Famous FiveπŸ˜€  Knitting and a history lesson in one box!!!  Seriously, that is my cup of tea (and they included that too).

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Sun Day Fun Day

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Not a lot of crafting today.  After lunch my son and I headed out on our bikes after getting the tires inflated, chains oiled, brakes and suspension checked, and in my case some how the front tire had comes loose over winter.  πŸ˜•

It was a very beautiful day out in the River Valley.  We rode over 20 miles including through Strathcona Science Provincial Park.  The natural areas are very pretty but the infrastructure is terrible.  Good thing we check the suspension on the bicycles 🀣:

After dinner this evening I made another of the Knitting Pouches from 4Paws Quilting & Knitting with their pattern.  I was going to make a special one for the yarn I am going to start making a pair of socks with tomorrow in honour of Saskatchewan Day tomorrow but I ran out of the fusible web for another bag so I only have one bag:

Will have to pick up some more tomorrow.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

S"crap" Time!!!

Good Evening, Good Morning Internet Friends!

Yes, I am still up.

Lots of errands and appointments today.  Took my son out for lunch to Press'd.  He thought that was a great adventure for a rainy Friday.

This evening I decided to spend a bit of time in my craft room sorting through some of my scraps.  I made another of the Flock of Geese Blocks for the 52 week challenge I am participating in along with A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

My Block #22.  Just checked the website and I am supposed to be on Block 31....(ooooooops).

Now that I have moved my craft room back to the original room I homesteaded for it and cleaned, and relocated, and organized I have room on the floor to lay out my blocks.  "Sew" I did that:

The beauty of these blocks is that this will be my third of these kind of quilts made with entirely scrap fabric from other projects.  Absolutely zero brand new fabric was used to make these blocks 😸

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Morning....

Good Morning Internet Friends!

"Sew" this week has been a very busy week and it is finally over and the long weekend can begin.

No blog posting this week as I only had one day off before working an extra overtime shift and then resuming my normal days of work.  My kidney stone decided to make its presence felt this week as well and for some reason the asthma flared up as well.  I really need to stay in my bubble.  πŸ€£

Throughout the week in the background I have been working slowly on the Hanalei Handbag that my neighbour Sharon has kitted up at 4Paws Quilting & Knitting:

I think this bag will be perfect for carrying some of my larger knitting projects.  There is a zippered pocket on the front for notions and sock needles.  Roomy pockets inside and magnetic bag closure inside.  The back side also has two pockets that patterns will store nicely in.

All in all a great bag that combines my love of sewing and or knitting.  πŸ˜Έ

Christmas In July...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

The first week back to work is complete and for the next almost 2 weeks I get to go to work like a regular person every day until my next vacation.  πŸŒ΄πŸ–

This evening on my way home from work I stopped by 4Paws Quilting & Knitting.  Sharon was unpacking a couple of the new fabric lines that she has brought in, one of which had a green colour way that just might match my next knitting project. πŸ˜€

After dinner and before taking horse puppy for a walk I made:

I decided it was okay to get this fabric because everyone seems to be having Christmas in July sales or themes right now so why not me?

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Oh S"crap"!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Took a wee bit of time to sew in my craft room just for fun tonight!

Decided to try and make another Flock of Geese Block for the 52 Week Block Challenge from A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

I love making these blocks because not only are they traditional quilt blocks but they allow me to use up my fabric scrap stash!  πŸ˜Š

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Sock It Up!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Back to work today at least for a few days....I will be back on vacation again shortly....😏

Very late yesterday evening, or early this morning dependent on how you look at it I finished my first sock from the Super Amazing Awesome Fingering Yarn Club that 4Paws Quilting & Knitting carries from Ancient Arts Fibre:

The sock turned out quite lovely but I cannot seem to get a decent photo of it to show off the cables and the lattice work in the pattern.  Trust me though.....the socks fit amazingly well.  πŸ˜Š

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

I'm in a Bit of a Jam...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Seriously, I got myself into a wee bit of a jam today!  Literally, I used up one and a half gallons of strawberries today to make:
Seven and a bit jars of Strawberry Jam!  πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“

I think we shall be having toast with fresh strawberry jam for breakfast tomorrow.

On top of that I actually have something crafty to show you today.

I LOVE strawberries.  I really do.  Last spring my neighbour Sharon of 4Paws Quilting & Knitting brought in this very lightly scented Strawberry Fabric.

Of course I had to have some of it.  I love the fabric because it is not only has strawberries but that the very light scent to it reminds me of my Strawberry Shortcake toy from when I was a child.

The scent on this just makes me "HAPPY" and seriously we ALL need a bit of that these days.

I used the Strawberry Fabric, to make a Dish Towel from Dish Towels that 4Paws Quilting & Knitting stocks and their pattern along with the Strawberry fabric.

Putting the jam jars on top made the kitchen smell just a little more summery for a while this afternoon.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

What's For Breakfast???

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Guess what we had for breakfast today and yes it involved strawberries (lots of them):

Strawberry French Toast!!!πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“

The strawberries were really sweet and delicious.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Saturday Drive....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

The weather outside was beautiful today so my son and I decided to road trip out to Stevens Strawberries.

The drive, the weather and the strawberries were perfect:

In about 15 minutes and 6' we had these two pails full of delicious and beautiful strawberries.  πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“

A bit of knitting after dinner and then watched a movie with my son.

An all round awesome day.

Hope this inspires you to make a road trip of memories...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I am on some kind of a Canadiana theme this week!

Earlier in the week I made a pillowcase, yesterday the table runner and today I decided to make a quick Knitting Pouch with the scraps from the pillowcase kit!

Love how this turned out.  Now I have to find me some kind of a knitting project to go along with this Knitting Pouch!  πŸ˜Έ

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Table Runner!!!

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

This evening I worked on piecing a Table Runner that I just HAD to have because I LOVE the colours.  You likely know that I love these colours:

This is the Canadiana Table Runner Kit that I got at 4Paws Quilting & Knitting the other day.

The finished size will be 16 x 55" and I love that I stretches across most of my table.  πŸ˜Ί

Hope this insprires your own creativity...

Sew Bee It!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today my friend and neighbour Sharon of 4Paws Quiltng & Knitting came over for lunch and a Sewing Day.  πŸ˜€

I made macaroni and cheese for lunch but forgot to take a picture before it was dug into.  I also baked a rhubarb streusel pie.  It was delicious!!!πŸ˜‹

This afternoon in addition to making some really awesome plans for 4Paws Quilting & Knitting, one of which involves one of my very, very, very, most favourite crafting company that I made connections with with in Quebec.

While Sharon worked on a shop sample with the fabric below I made a pillow case to coordinate with the quilt she is making and sewed some more of the 320 squares that are to becomes half square triangles soon:

The Pillowcase that I made this afternoon.  I love the Canadiana theme that is this fabric.  πŸ

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Comfort Day

Good Evening Internet Friends.

Awoke today to an overcast and smoky sky.  There are forest fires burning in British Columbia at present.  I went out briefly this morning but my asthma did not like the air quality so I returned to my house/bubble with all it's air quality instruments etc.

This afternoon I did some knitting on my June box of Super Amazing Awesome Fingering Yarn Club that I get through 4Paws Quilting & Knitting (literally my neighbourhood quilt and yarn store). 😊😁

I started these socks while in Quebec on Summer Vacation and of course since getting home and going back to work have not done a lot of work on them.  Today I was able to get the heel flap and heel done.  πŸ˜Ί

For dinner I made fresh Tomato Dill Soup and we had the Green Onion cakes along with.  Super awesome:

This was of course comfort food to add to the perfect comfort day.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Off to Market

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today my son and I headed off to the St Albert Farmers' Market.  There was lots of wonderful products and after stopping by the library as well we picked up some vegetables and two bags of green onion cakes.  Yum.

We did not eat any of this bounty this evening as we went out for dinner with the neighbours for my son's 13th Birthday πŸŽ‚

After dinner we ventured over to Rundle Park to check out the goats they have grazing the river valley this year.

Not a goat person, but I have to admit they are kind of cute, but they can stay in the park.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Where am I???

Good Very Late Evening Internet Friends!

First off I know that I am home and that I think I am over jet lag and holiday fun and exhaustion at the same time.  Back to work this week for four days and as of this evening I am back on vacation for another 12 days.  As of yet, I have no real plans for this vacation time.  Might go to Farmer's Market tomorrow 😊

Have done a bit of knitting this week in between important things like getting to and from work, kid to his events, and baking bread the other evening because my son does not like the taste of store bought bread:  πŸž

This evening I sorted through some more of the scraps in my craft room and made:

Another Flock of Geese Block for the 52 Week Block Challenge.  Not sure what week I am supposed to be on, but this is MY current block and I feel accomplished that at least another one is made. 😲

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

What's the Buzz???

Good Evening Internet Friends!

We arrived back home very late Saturday or very early Sunday morning dependent on time zone that we still seem to be adjusting to and also due to a delay with departure of the plane from Ottawa.

Back to work now for two days and at home starting to get organized and some sense of normal restored.

This evening on my way home I stopped at 4Paws Quilting & Knitting to pick up a couple of necessary items.  Got the "necessary" items but also found the new kits that Sharon has put together for her 4Paws Knitting Pouches.  These pouches have a different colour base from the main part of the bag 😊.

Of course I had to get one of these.  I decided on a colour way that would coordinate with my next knitting project that I hope to start soon with a pattern that I picked up while in Quebec:

Now off to check on the bread I decided to bake this evening as I was too tired to stop at the market on the way home this evening.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Happy Canada Day!

Good Evening Internet Friends from a very wet Ottawa and Canada 150.

Yesterday on the flight and between naps I finished my Canada 150 Special Dye exclusive colourway for 4Paws Quilting & Knitting.

These socks are a necessity in the rain today as it is not even a warm is a cold rain.

This afternoon we spent some time inside at the Canadian Museum of History.  Not only do I love the exhibits in there, but it was dry.   One of my favourite things to see there are the totem poles:

Now to try and dry out for the fireworks this evening!  Happy Canada Day everyone and

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Tuesday, 27 June 2017

Good Evening Internet Friends😎

Today was my last day to get things done before we leave for Ottawa for Canada 150 as I work the next two days and then we leave.

This afternoon I chopped up the rhubarb that I got on the weekend.  I froze some and used the rest to make Rhubarb Cake:

This is probably one of my favourite treats of summer!

This evening when we took the dog (horse) out for a walk the River Valley looked very pretty:

Summer Storm...

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

One thing you may not know about me is that I LOVE a good summer storm.  As a child growing up on the Saskatchewan prairies my bedroom had a dormer window with a bench seat.  I loved sitting in that seat looking out through the windows watching the lightning and the rain hitting the windows.

This evening here in Edmonton a summer storm rolled through.  Storms here are no comparison to the majestic ones back home, but it was still a good light show.

I worked a bit on one of my Row by Row blocks from last year.  I am beginning to think I am doing this wrong.  I collect the blocks all summer long from the places that I visit on Summer Vacation.  Last year I collected 22 or 23 (I cannot remember now) blocks that I am making into a 2016 Summer Vacation Quilt.  Kind of like a fabric scrapbook.  Here in my local area though we already have people who have driven to 8 stores and collected their blocks and made a quilt!!!!  Seriously.

Last week my neighbour and friend Sharon and I headed out to one of the quilt shops in our area that had a really cute row by row.  Within seconds of my getting into the shop I started to itch.  My body started to turn red and the further I went into the store the more I scratched and got red.  By the time I left my chest was tight and the cough had set in.  The block is still sitting in the package because to be honest I am scared to open it.  Word on the street is the place has had a flood!!!

"Sew" this evening I made from my last year's Row by Row:

This is part of the bottom portion of the row.

As I was leaving my craft room the ground shook.  I looked outside and:

The tree in my neighbours yard has lost MORE of itself!!! This tree seems to fall apart every time we have a wind storm this summer!!!  The entire road is filled with a portion of tree that is larger than the 4x4 pick up trucks that line both sides of the street.  πŸ˜•πŸ˜•

The storm has settled now it seems so it's off to bed with my knitting for a bit as tomorrow is a complete errand day!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Afternoon Internet Friends!

Almost.....almost is kind of my life right now.

It is almost time to go to work for evening shift.  I have almost finished the things I need to do today including getting my son to all his extra curricular and social activities today.

I am almost ready to start packing for our trip to Ottawa for Canada's 150th Birthday.

As far as crafting....that is always an "almost" procedure.  Right now my Canada Day Rag Quilt that I got the fabric from 4Paws Quilting & Knitting is almost ready:

Just have to do the snipping part ☺ and it will be ready!

Have a great week everyone and

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

During the time that I was moving, cleaning and organizing my craft room I discovered that I have some REALLY amazing stuff hidden down there ☺

I found several boxes of the Paper Pumpkin paper crafting kits I used to get until I decided that they just really were not worth the value.

I still do not think that they are worth the price, however while cleaning I decided that I could turn all the card kits into Thank You cards.

After dinner, laundry, homework checks and getting my son to bed I took a few minutes in my newly almost clean craft room and made:

Nine Thank You Cards!

I will be giving these to my friend and neighbor to use with her customer fabric orders.

"Sew" if you receive one you will now know where it came from ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Quilt Time....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

"Sew" my quilting skills have progressed a lot over the years but there is something very wonderful and cozy about a good ole rag quilt.

When I saw this Canada flannel at 4Paws Quilting & Knitting I decided that I MUST make a rag quilt for Canada Day 150:

My first pile of squares completed.  On to the red next. ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Dog Days...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Not a whole lot of anything exciting today.

My son and I took the dog out for a walk in the River Valley today.

Prior to going out though I baked Dog Biscuits and delivered some to our doggie friends and neighbours.  They seemed to really enjoy the treats:

Hope everyone had a wonderful day.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

I Don't Follow Directions....

Good Evening Internet Friends.

For those of you that know me and those of you that are just finding out......I Don't follow Directions.

I wish I could say that is not true.....but it is.

This afternoon I decided that I would finally make one of the Knitting Pouch bags that I wrote the pattern for.  Guess what?????  I can't even follow my own directions.  I decided to change the pattern up a bit:

I decided that I wanted a colour coordinated base to the bag!

A few minor changes and I have a really cool Knitting Pouch ☺

Then it was time to take Kiddo and "Horse Dog" for a walk:

Horse Dog has settled in for a very deep sleep at present. ☺

After dinner I took pictures of the new yarns with Mini Skeins that 4Paws Quilting & Knitting has brought in:

Meet Canada 150!  This yarn is a special dye lot for the shop.  Mini Skein is for coordinating cuffs, heels and toes. ☺

Now meet Amethyst and green.  I LOVE this colourway as well because it reminds me of Grapes ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Canada 150 Socks!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Earlier this week 4Paws Quilting & Knitting received their Special Request Dye of Canada 150 yarn.  By special request I had asked for mini red skeins to coordinate with this custom dye:

I was "SO" excited to get started on a pair of socks with red toes heel and cuff but my JRA has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now (the moving and cleaning may not have been good for it).

I am not a fan of toe up socks but because of the style I wanted I chose to use this method.  At first I cast on with my wooden circular needle but since it is small (for socks) my hands got even more sore quite quickly trying to hold the needles.  I switched to my Sock Rocket needles knowing that the metal would bother my hands but hoping that with lots of extra cable I would be able to knit without too much pain.  Not has taken me most of the week to get through the toe portion.  As of tonight however I was able to switch out to my 6" Double Point Needles and although my hands still hurt the needles are long enough and the radius of the sock wide enough to allow my hands to be able to knit😁😁

Now I am really making progress!  Hopefully I can have these socks finished for Canada Day although I might be knitting these on the flight.....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Now that I have cleaned and organized my craft room I have assigned areas/space for each of my different crafting pursuits.  I have a quilting, a knitting, a cross stitch and a scrapbooking area.

This evening I used some of the prepared card bases I found to make some Thank You cards for Sharon to include with her customer orders:

"Sew" if you place an order and receive one of these you will know where it came from ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Tuesday, 13 June 2017

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I am starting to enjoy the effort that I have put into moving and organizing my craft room over the last week.

There are some amazing things in that room.....I may never (actually I don't) ever need to shop for craft supplies again!🀣🀣

The greatest thing about my reclaimed room is that I have more space to do the things I like in a little more tidy and organized manner.

This evening a quick stop in the scrap bucket and I was able to produce:

Another Flock of Geese Block from the challenge I am participating in from A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop.

Right now I have no idea how many blocks I have made "sew" far nor how many I am supposed to have.  I am just happy to be able to walk into my craft room and have everything easily accessible ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Squishy Mail.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

Well.....Squishy Mail Arrived today!!!!

Here is the box.  This is a Club Subscription of Fingering Yarn from Ancient Arts that I subscribed to through 4Paws Quilting & Knitting.

Ready to see what was me this box did not make it home before I had it opened:

I LOVE this colourway and can hardly wait to get started on this, but there were also some other yarn arrivals I should get started on first.....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...
